Hey! Thank you for visiting my website, I really appreciate you stopping by.

I created this website to give myself somewhere to upload images and thoughts away from hashtags, algorithms and marketing. I am on social media (Instagram, VERO and Foto for simply photography) and enjoy a spot of creative writing on Medium and Substack - just search my name or click one of the links below.

My Photography

My photography is first and foremost for me. In a world of digital overloading, content and sales, driven by always instant anxiety, photography - the act of making photographs - is a form of escapism for me. It’s about the cliché journey rather than the destination.

As an ‘amateur generalist’ I’m not anchoring myself to one genre, I am photographing whatever I want - contrary to the ‘how to make it’ advice. My main interests however are nature, landscapes and wildlife - the quiet calm.

My Gear

I’ll keep this short, I am a FUJIFILM user with two main bodies: the X-T5 and X-Pro1. They are at opposite ends of the tech spectrum and it is deliberately that way. I love it.

The X-Pro1 is perfectly functional and when I scooped one up for less than £100 (they’re £300+ second hand now!) I was really pleased. Paired with a TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 or even a native XF lens, it provides fun and a quality of image you would expect from a 13-year old camera. It’s always in my bag.

My XT5 is not worth comparing. I had the XT3 before, which I loved, skipped the XT4 and went straight for the 40MP upgraded processor version. For what I need, it is more than enough. One day though, I’d love a Medium Format GFX model…but right now that would be greedy.

My Writing

If you’re interested in. written word as well as photographs, why not subscribe to my Substack newsletter? Or follow on Medium.

Observations and Musings is a collection of blogs from every day noticing. I hope you see something you like, but I won’t be offended if that’s not the case!

About Me

A thirty-something (I’ll let you decide) amateur generalist, excelling at nothing but probably average at several things. Too many interests to count, and enjoying the act of learning something new. In a world of AI shortcuts, this might not be a bad thing, right?

Day-to-day I am developing housing projects for those most in need - those without a home, those fleeing violence or seeking an escape from addiction. I believe everyone deserves a roof over their head - having a place to call home is a stabilising life change most of us take for granted. It should be the norm, let’s make it so.

Lover of sports, enjoyer of boardgames, seeker of outdoor pursuits, beer checker-inner, reader of books (but mostly anything related to mid-19th century polar exploration), and very bad creative writer.
